Submitting a Talk or Poster Abstract

This GREAT Plenary follows the format adopted at the Rome and Turku GREAT Plenaries in 2012 and 2013. The plenary will allow for the presentation of new science carried out within the context of the GREAT working groups, or related activities.

At this stage all those wishing to present are invited to signup with some details of their talk or poster idea. There is a page for each of the themed sessions linked from the meeting wiki at http://great.ast.cam.ac.uk/Greatwiki/GreatMeet-PM7. Thus, choose which session most fits your presentation topic and add to the page at:

All submissions received by Fri 9th May 2014 will be considered, with the final programme being drawn up and published by Mon 19th May 2013.

Registering to Attend the GREAT@EWASS Symposium

In terms of the meeting as a whole - the GREAT Plenary is organised as Symposium 3 at the EWASS. You will need to register to attend - go to the EWASS registration site - registration is now open with early registration closing 15 April 2014 - see the EWASS 2014 Registration page

Note that you are registering to attend the EWASS as a whole, thus can attend any and all of the variuos meetings held during the week.

Note on the EWASS Abstract Submission

As described above we encourage all to submit their contributions directly to the meeting wiki session pages at http://great.ast.cam.ac.uk/Greatwiki/GreatMeet-PM7. For those of you submitting before the EWASS abstract deadline of 15 March 2014 - then please also copy your abstract into the EWASS system (which keeps track of abstracts across all the various meetings going on that week). You'll find this page at http://eas.unige.ch/EWASS2014/abstract_submission.jsp

Financial Support

A limited  amount of financial support for young astronomers is provided through the European Astronomical Society. You can find information about this topic online at the following address:  http://eas.unige.ch/ewass.jsp (Look under EWASS 2014 and the Grant Request tab). The deadline for such a grant request is 15 March 2014

Meeting Aims and Goals

This seventh plenary meeting of GREAT will focus on the following key topics:
  • Update on the progress and early operations of Gaia, highlighting developments relevant to those in the wider community aiming to scientifically exploit Gaia
  • Science from the GREAT network - leading to the promise of Gaia
  • Discuss the evolution of the GREAT network and review the ESF funded network in 2014
  • Within parallel discussions decide on plans for specific networking activities to support the work of the various science working groups.
  • Special focus science session on Gaia and Asteroseismology. This session serves as an introduction to the following Special Session Sp2 'Helios and Helium: what is wrong with them?' which is addressing the role of asteroseismic studies in informing our knowledge of the chemical makeup of stars.
